The Role Of Culture In Society
We as a species are known to be social and cultured. The social life of each individual exists because of the culture unique to the society they belong to. It is because they belong to that society that they have their unique social lifestyles. Many scientists and specialists agreed that it was the culture that made us distinct from the animals and it is absolutely essential to the survival of our species. It is a lot more than just that, it is what represents our entire achievement as a human race in the world and on this planet.
There are so many roles of it in our society but it is best known as the only real treasury of knowledge. It provides knowledge and that is an essential part of our intellectual and physical existence. Many experts think that culture and knowledge along with education are what gave us greater learning capacities and intelligence.
Adapting through learning
By learning and understanding our surroundings, humankind was able to adapt to the environment and go even further in modifying it to its convenience. That modification and adaptation were possible because of culture and therefore it is absolutely safe to say that one of the roles of culture in our society is to provide knowledge and necessary skills in order to survive and evolve.
At the beginning of mankind, the prehistoric men had to know how to survive and their biggest challenge was that same survival. Today, because of the cultural heritage passed on for centuries, we don’t have to think about survival the way our ancient ancestors did. Today, we care for much bigger things than just survival. That is the result of all that culture gathered through time. There is a much bigger role that culture plays in society than this.It helps the preservation and transmission of the accumulated knowledge from one generation to another. In fact, it helps not only just the transmission but diffusion, accumulation and preservation. Finally, it is the defining factor for all social situations in the world. It makes us who we are.
