Rubén Isaac Ribaac Albarrán Ortega, Emmanuel Meme del Real Díaz, José Alfredo Joselo Rangel Arroyo and Enrique Quique Rangel Arroyo are the members of the most important Mexican rock band in the world. They are unmistakably, Café Tacvba.
By taking its name from a very old bar in Mexico City, the Tacvba perhaps foretold the longevity of their own band. Up to now they have earned awards everywhere, they have ten studio albums under their belt and two decades on the stage. They have planned celebrating it all in San Salvador, Caracas, Bogotá, Quito, Lima, La Paz, Santiago, Buenos Aires, Havana, San Juan, DF, León, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tijuana, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Barcelona and of course, our beloved London.
The Forum was filled with Latino faces, South American accents and an exuberant energy so fitting with the Tacvba. They, professionals, experts, toured a repertoire that speaks clearly of the great versatility of this band. With a heavy start and definitely rocking, the band brought sweat to an auditorium that was visibly beating with each note. The eternal response of the singing of the public, chanting Mexican-style for anniversaries, was answered by a second part of the show where the violin of Alejandro Flores, the fifth Tacvbo, joined and helped make everything much more home-grown sounding. With a neat stage, projectors busy with images that were both sophisticated and modern, plus a Ruben that distilled an energy that seemed to make him levitate, the show did not have a song too many or too few.
This was not a concert then, it was an intimate birthday party, with friends, with a mutual and palpable affection for each other. The Tacvba sang, talked, danced a few very amusing kitsch steps and with all due respect gave thanks for the fulfilled dreams. You're welcome, Café Tacvba, thanks to you for the music and the many memories.
