I Warned You: Los Fabulosos Cadillacs in London
The return of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs gets expanded, it spreads itself and reaches us in London, at the Troxy, where Gabriel Fernández Capello -aka Vicentico- as the voice, Flavio Cianciarulo -aka Mr. Flavio- on bass, Sergio Rotman on sax, Mario Siperman on keyboards, Fernando Ricciardi on percussion and Daniel Lozano on trumpet brought a hot, jumbled and definitely Latin rhythm. The night almost made for dancing and the enchanting tunes put everyone in the mood. There were smiles all over the place, people feeling happy while the sounds of pure love were echoing through the venue. Truly the event to remember as people said it themselves.
This arrival to Britain has not disappointed, with a full and bustling auditorium, the Cadillacs reviewed their vast 25 years of music to the delight of those sweaty, dark and undulating bodies shaped by Argentines, Colombians, Mexicans, Peruvians, Bolivians, Chileans, Venezuelans and as many fans with South American blood as there are in London. Stiff at the beginning, the Cadillacs were earning their ease to the rhythm of “Matador”, “Mal bicho”, “Vos Sabés”, to the eternal classics “Muy, muy temprano”, “Mi novia se cayó en un pozo ciego” and some other new songs as the rambunctious “La Luz del Ritmo”.
With the accustomed encores, the surprise was to have Astor on drums and Florián on the guitar on stage, the firstborns of Mr. Flavio and Vicentico respectively, who joined the band for the pleasure of the public and their moms, who were proudly standing behind the scenes.
It was a real party, an explosion of contagious energy that Vicentico and his henchmen drenched with their porteño fellowship and the typical Río de la Plata irreverence that has always defined them. Vicentico doesn’t like singing “Yo no me sentaría en tu mesa” and he says so, but he sings it anyway. Perhaps this song sets the complicity of the band in spite of Vicentico’s reluctance: “Even though you want to take our place and think that we are only a handful of idiots, you will not take away what we did already; we are now closer brothers than before. You won’t be able to look us in the eye anymore; we are all friends, see how lonely you are. Even though you want to cover all our voices, you will never be able to silence this song…”
